Who We Are

Our website address is https://cocovs.space. This site is owned and operated by Oilinstor, the author and sole translator of the web novel Essence-Polarity Dossier (《魂孿英旅》). This is a personal, non-commercial project.

What Personal Data We Collect and Why

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string. This helps us detect and block spam comments.

An anonymized string (also called a hash) may be created from your email address and provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture (if any) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Note: Commenting on this site does not require creating an account. We do not offer user registration for general visitors.

Media

This site is a text-based novel translation platform. We do not currently allow visitors to upload images or other media files. If this changes in the future, visitors will be advised to avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as such data can be extracted by others.

Contact Forms and Email

If you contact us directly via [email protected] . we will have your email address and any information you include in your message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry and do not add you to any marketing or mailing list. This correspondence is retained only as long as needed to resolve your inquiry.

Cookies

This website uses cookies in the following limited ways:

  • Comments: If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you do not need to fill in your details again when leaving another comment. These cookies last for one year.
  • Login page: If we ever enable a login page for administrative purposes, a temporary cookie will be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
  • Language preference: This site supports multiple display languages. A cookie may be set to remember your preferred language so you do not need to switch it on every visit. This cookie contains only a language code (such as “en” or “zh-Hant”) and no personal information. It persists for one year.

You can disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. However, this may affect the functionality of certain features, such as language persistence.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site do not currently include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, social media posts) from third-party websites. We are a self-contained novel translation site. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website, which may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Who We Share Your Data With

  • Spam detection: Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service (such as Akismet). This involves transmitting the comment content, IP address, and user agent to the service for analysis. Only data necessary for spam filtering is shared.
  • Gravatar: As described above, a hashed version of your email may be sent to Gravatar to retrieve your profile picture if you use that service.
  • Password reset: If you ever request a password reset (should account functionality be introduced), your IP address will be included in the reset email for security purposes.
  • No other parties: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with any other third parties. We do not use analytics services that track you across the web. We do not serve advertisements.

How Long We Retain Your Data

  • Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
  • Email correspondence: Retained only as long as necessary to address your inquiry, then deleted.
  • Server logs (IP addresses, etc.): Automatically rotated and deleted by our hosting provider on a regular basis. We do not maintain long-term logs of visitor IP addresses beyond what is necessary for security and spam prevention.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes (for example, spam detection records).

Where Your Data Is Sent

  • Spam detection: Visitor comments are sent to an automated spam detection service (such as Akismet) for checking. The service may process data on servers located outside your country of residence. By using the comment feature, you consent to this transfer for spam prevention purposes.
  • Language translation functionality: This site is available in multiple languages. The translations you see are pre-prepared, human-translated versions hosted on our own server. No third-party machine translation service receives your data when you switch languages.

Children’s Privacy

This website is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date will be revised. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
