Chapter 16: A Proposal

–Bandage Doctor?–

Some made to dash forward and rescue, but were instantly swept aside or cut off by several streaks of bandages.

{I am the creator of the –Shiqian Group.–}

–The cre…ator of the Shiqian Group?!– The crowd erupted in an uproar.

Yang Zicang stared fixedly.

–It’s you—you’re the one who dissected Wang Chaoguang?!–

The man on the roof gave a cold smirk.

{The very same.}

……

Everyone had already heard about the Bandage Doctor from the captured members of the Shiqian Group; this figure, previously unheard of, turned out to be the mastermind pulling the strings from the shadows.

The Rose Queen by the broken table exclaimed in astonishment, –This stone hall… can be destroyed so easily by him?–

The bandages flying through the air, coiling around people, radiated a terrifying –keep away– aura.

–What’s going on? Our Syn-Link isn’t working!–

Some tried to activate Moxel to contact the outside world, but found it impossible no matter what they did.

–Is his power really that strong?–

–We can’t reach anyone—it’s like the outside world has all gone silent.–

Panic began to spread.

–Mine has failed too. Did he do all this? How is that possible?!–

{I know what you’re wondering. Yang Zicang, you should know what this does, right?}

He held up an object that looked like a lump of irregular, dark, congealed iron, or like an unidentifiable fragment of bone.

{Do you know why your friend couldn’t reach you a few hours ago? It was because of this.}

Yang Zicang furrowed his brow.

Although the hall was filled with panicked voices, beneath this restless noise lay a faint, hidden stillness.

He jerked his head up. –The Place of Stillness?-

{Not bad. Fancy you knowing its name. With it here, don’t even think about using Moxel to call for reinforcements.}

–You’re thinking too simply!-

Energy surged behind Yang Zicang, rapidly expanding and then solidifying to manifest a vast, misty pale blue sea.

[True Descent, Paleshade Wyrm!]

In an instant, the Paleshade Wyrm soared up from that energy hue akin to a deep-sea abyss, hurtling toward the figure on the ceiling.

But the bandage-wrapped figure on the roof showed no fear at all.

Countless bandages on its body loosened and expanded outward, enveloping itself like an egg.

In that moment, Yang Zicang flicked the silk scarf wrapped around his arm under his clothes. With a boom, it transformed into a huge wide carpet. The young man kicked off the broken tabletop beneath his feet, leaped onto the carpet, and was about to charge toward the stone hall’s top, which had been blasted with several large holes.

{Heh heh, who’s the one oversimplifying things? Get… back!}

Boom boom boom!

The iron ring chandelier suddenly trembled as countless bandages rushed in, intercepting the huge carpet’s path. Sometimes being too big is a hindrance.

The Rose Queen shouted, –Zicang, be careful!-

The air around them exploded with a roar, and an indescribable admiration and craving for love surged up from everyone’s hearts.

Morri swayed, looking down at his glass where countless rose petals swirled in the wine. He gaped as Xu Aiyuan gritted her teeth and tugged at an embroidered rose petal on her collar. As needle-sharp drops of blood seeped from her fingertips, the petal was forcibly torn off.

With the tearing and tossing motion, a psychic wave rippled outward, and energy petals sprouted at everyone’s feet.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Petals collided with bandages!

Raging sound waves pierced eardrums, and the glass in Morri’s hand exploded into shards. Dozens of narrow gauze strips, each half a meter long, scattered in the colliding energy.

–So they’re not real either—these bandages are reinforced by telekinesis!-

After the wide, deformed bandages shattered, they turned out to be nothing but ordinary narrow gauze strips.

Yang Zicang gritted his teeth and launched himself into the air. –Hold on! I’ll take him out!-

[Grav-Arc!]

[Because I am the great quadrilateral, I can quadruple amplify!]

–Morri!- Yang Zicang roared. As long as Morri was behind him, there was nothing to fear!

–Go fight! I’ve got your back!-

Boom! The spear thrust out, and the rings of force field spreading above the dome shattered with a crash.

[I offset 10000N! How is this possible?]

Boom! Boom! Boom!

[I invested 8000N for Morri.]

[Morri invested 9999N for me!]

In just a single exchange, countless rolling bandages snapped the fourfold amplified Chronos, a power spanning eight thousand years!

Suddenly, a dark red thin ray shot over at high speed, so fast that Yang Zicang’s coordination ability could barely keep up.

Yang Zicang’s hand swiftly raised again; the black hole phantom of Grav-Arc suddenly spun outside the dome, and the Silver Lance, carrying the red light, was about to shoot out from behind the bandages!

The Bandage Doctor turned his head, glancing at the spinning black hole with a cold, mocking look in his eyes.

Swish! The long spear turned into a red shadow and slammed down.

But at that very moment, the dozen or so strips of gauze debris that had just blasted onto the ground twisted and elongated, linking together.

The ground exploded violently.

A twisted humanoid figure rose from the interwoven bandages and instantly charged toward Xu Aiyuan’s side.

–What?!-

–Miss Aiyuan!-

The people below cried out in shock.

The giant carpet high above thumped as it swung in an arc, instantly smashing several hanging iron ring candelabras. Yang Zicang spread out gleaming threads. The flying fragments of the iron rings instantly took on a golden light and rained down like falling stars.

–Aiyuan, fall back!-

Paleshade Wyrm plunged downward, scraping out blinding flames even through the pervasive psychic energy.

The Bandage Doctor chuckled, raising his hand to fling two cloth strips wrapped with scalpels toward the thought dragon, while the other five scalpels whooshed into streaks of light fast enough to split the air, instantly materializing beside Xu Aiyuan.

[Trajectory Dispatch!]

{Too slow.}

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Five willow-leaf-shaped scalpels pinned down the woman’s skirt and shoulder blades.

Yang Zicang jolted—the Dispatch ability was useless against the scalpels.

The Bandage Doctor closed in on Xu Aiyuan, and in that instant, the entire hall had been woven into a web-like cage of twisted bandages.

{Time to end this game.}

A scalpel, gleaming with faint crimson, pressed against the woman’s soft throat.

–You!- Yang Zicang’s eyes spat fire. –Stop!-

The red scalpel in the bandaged hand holding the woman stabbed upward, carving red lines across Xu Aiyuan’s tender, pale skin.

{What needs to stop is your movement, my friend.}

More gauze coiled from the bandaged figure’s hands, layering around the woman already encased in the thought energy rose.

As the bandages coil around, energy ripples constantly spread across the surface of the shield, which resembles a giant rose. Each second, her psychic protection grows thinner, as if on the verge of collapse.

{Use the invisibility ability sphere to trade for her life.}

Yang Zicang feels the blood in his veins burning fiercely.

–Let her go! Or else…–

{What kind of look is that, huh?}

The scalpel pressed against her neck lifts slightly. The Rose Queen’s pupils constrict sharply as more blood seeps from her throat. This man is utterly unshaken by any threat.

Seeing the blood ooze out, Yang Zicang feels his heart skip a beat.

This is a complete madman!

He truly is capable of anything!

–You—calm down!– Yang Zicang forces himself to steady his emotions, speaking in a tone full of reason.

But the moment the giant blanket lowers just a bit, the scalpel plunges without hesitation into her flesh, the blade now less than a millimeter from her artery.

{Stay right there. Don’t move.}

The Bandage Doctor lets out a cold laugh.

Everyone freezes in place, not daring to draw a breath.

{The ability sphere may come over. If anything else appears, she can say goodbye to this world right now.}

All eyes turn to Yang Zicang, floating in the air.

–Yang Zicang!– a girl cries out, her voice choked with tears. –Is Sister Rose not worth an ability sphere? Save her!–

–No!- someone in the crowd shouted. –If the invisible Moxel is given to this person, I’m afraid no place in the Lost Frequency Land will ever be safe again!-

The mere thought of a mentally ill patient with invisibility, capable of appearing beside them at any moment, sent chills down everyone’s spine.

{Oh? Actually…}

The bandaged doctor looked around, pondered for a moment, then smiled.

{I have a proposal. How about we make a deal? You hand over the invisible Moxel, and I promise not to use the ability ball myself.}

Not use it yourself?

–Then what do you plan to do with it?-

The crowd reacted for a moment, and instantly a sharp glint appeared in some of their eyes—a wave of cold dread rising.
