Chapter 3: The Longed-for Holy Land

Two days had passed since that massive explosion.

{I am the Star Express!}

The phantom train that becomes a superstar—Little Matt Chao! Now it can gallop freely across the sky even in broad daylight!

The only problem is, it’s now shrouded in a chilling yin aura.

Anyone who enters comes out with a fever or illness without fail. Even Yang Zicang himself has stocked up on plenty of potions and treatment gear aboard the train.

At this moment, Deputy Town Chief Zhu Yin and the others were inside the train, staring at the piles of fever patches, medicines, and treatment spheres in the medicine cabinet.

–A one-stop service: get sick, buy meds.–

–I have a feeling… this flying subway has the makings of a shady medical cartel’s accomplice.–

……

Yang Zicang sat on a flying carpet, hovering among the clouds, watching the distant train slice through the clouds at the speed of an ordinary subway.

–Let’s go higher,– said Robin Lo, Xu Xiuchuan, and the others.

Yang Zicang nodded, and the carpet continued to ascend. After passing 200 meters, it began spending up to a year’s worth of Chronos per second. Higher altitudes required controlling even more positions.

–The air’s so thin, my head’s starting to hurt.–

Thump—a bottle of painkillers landed in Fan Xiuyun’s arms as he clutched his head.

–Look over there!–

Xiao Liu suddenly stood up and pointed ahead.

Ahead was a chaotic, suspended entrance, like a flowing curtain of mercury.

–Could that be the Lost Dream Company?–

This was the discovery Little Matt Chao had made over the past two days. If you didn’t approach and observe closely, no one could see it.

–Not really, but I don’t know of any other mysterious realms besides the ‘Lost Illusion Company’.-

Yang Zicang sent Paleshade Wyrm to investigate, and the entrance was very quiet.

–It must be manifested from psychic power.-

–To leave psychic energy here, untouched even by that explosion—the one who left it must be incredibly powerful.-

The others nodded in agreement.

–I think this is left for whoever achieves the identity of ‘Big Star’. Why else would it be tossed somewhere no one else can reach?-

Teacher Chen coaxed, –Boss, want to go in and take a look?-

Yang Zicang rubbed his chin; he hadn’t forgotten what Xingmiao said.

—Don’t become the protagonist of this place. What if what’s inside is for its future owner?

–Let’s go in once we have more intel. There’s no hurry.-

The flying carpet soared through the sky, naturally parting the gale so those on it wouldn’t be thrown off by the speed.

Teacher Chen leaned over the edge to look down.

The land below vaguely formed an irregular rectangle, and beyond it stretched endless chaotic ash. It existed within a void of darkness—this was no continent on a planet.

–He actually turned his own body into land and left it here…- Teacher Chen’s hair whipped in the fierce wind as he sighed with emotion. –It even sustains the creatures living on it. Is he truly not a god?-

–I wonder if we can ever reach such power in the future.-

–Then head back to the city and get the daily top rating.-

–Why.-

–Dreams have it all.-

……

In a mountain forest, Wuying revealed himself.

–Heh, Yang Zicang… Hmph, if it weren’t for how precious your ability is, I’d really want to be true friends with you.-

As he spoke, a line of light shot from his chest into the void.

……

The flying carpet was speeding forward when suddenly a small light cluster rose slowly, ascending to their side.

–The little reporter is here,- they called out. –Little cutie, come play quickly.-

Just as Yang Zicang turned his head to look, a line of light shot over. He immediately understood—so the little reporter was doing –research.-

He smiled and connected:

–Wuying, what’s up?-

{Haha, nothing much. By the way, I got a few bottles of fine wine aged for several years. Want to have a drink tonight?}

–No thanks. We just got together two days ago when I returned your treasure. Next time.-

{Alright. Three days later, several head farmers are holding a joint memorial ceremony. You must come. I’ll also tell you about the ranking battle then.}

–Ranking battle?-

That’s the battle that Councilor No.41 suggested I participate in. Victory would bring an extra reward from a councilor.

{You’re from City No.41, right. To truly improve your ranking, you must defeat the chief team of City No.23 by the end of the year.}

–Alright. Thank you, Wuying.-

Seeing that Yang Zicang seemed to have taken some interest in the gathering, Wuying smiled with satisfaction and ended the communication link.

After their conversation ended, Robin Lo chuckled, –That guy—we became friends through a fight, as they say.-

–It’s fine. Anyway, I think it’s better not to have too much contact with this kind of person—just keep a proper distance.-

Liliya’s hovering ability above the flying carpet suddenly vanished, and she dropped from two meters high onto the carpet, bouncing up a few centimeters.

{So much fun!}

Robin Lo muttered, –That little reporter wouldn’t happen to know about what just happened, would he?-

Everyone’s eyes instantly fell on the cute elf. She turned her head and looked back at them.

{Why are you all staring at me?}

Yang Zicang suddenly broke into a lecherous grin and said, –The cutest little beauty Liliya in the world, do you know what’s inside that vortex door over there?-

Liliya flew over, got close, and sniffed Yang Zicang’s face.

{I smell the stench of a bad idea~!}

–Stop messing around—I bet you don’t know either, right?- said Yang Zicang, crossing his arms.

{Hmm… I don’t know.}

Sure enough, Liliya lowered her little face in disappointment, as if her weak spot had been poked.

Seeing that expression, several resentful glares shot at him from all sides. Yang Zicang immediately felt he had stirred up a huge storm; he waved his hands frantically and said,

–Come on, don’t be like that. Actually, none of us know. It’s perfectly normal that Liliya doesn’t.-

{Yeah, that’s right!}

Liliya abruptly dashed out of the flying carpet with full energy and ran away.

–Gave her a way out, but she still ran off in embarrassment.-

–You little…-

Robin Lo stumbled over, full of complaints like a doting father: –Don’t tease the little sprites casually in the future, they’ll take it seriously.-

–Ahaha.-

Yang Zicang scratched his head in embarrassment, and some people around said:

–In the future… the deputy town can contact Little Matt Chao to go up anytime. If we miss the treasure, it’ll be a huge loss!-

Robin Lo glanced at the circle of flying carpets—at the cargo team members who were openly or secretly urging to take a look inside the telekinesis cave—and said, –Then do you dare to go in?-

Everyone shuddered in unison.

–Maybe we should go home, it’s time to start dinner.-

Yang Zicang suddenly became serious in thought, –Maybe someone else knows.-

–No way, boss? Have you thought of something?-

Several people looked over, staring intently at the seated Yang Zicang, from whose chest threads were spreading out.

[I, the great Quadrilateral Train Conductor, am now contacting my train.]

In less than a moment, a gaze fell upon them.

[Hub Town is watching us.]

–Ah, it’s the town mayor.-

The silver-white Hub Town, already aware of the inquiry’s content through the big star Little Matt Chao, directly replied:

{That place is entirely a fantasy dreamed up by that existence. Even though she has died, because of her firm belief in life, her lingering spirit still materialized a real image, born alongside the earth.}

–Is it the true owner of Xingmiao, the goddess who manifested this land?-

–From your human perspective, this is indeed a miracle. But she is not a deity; you may call her a sage. As for the buildings within the illusion field… they are the phantom of a holy land passed down by word of mouth in the old world she once inhabited.-

–A holy land!- The group was startled. The very term –holy land- sounded like a place overflowing with treasure!

But Hub Town added:

–However, since she never visited the holy land of the old world, it differs from the true one. This is merely a holy land she conjured from writings.-

–This…-

–A sage of such power, yet she never set foot in the holy land she yearned for?-

The group felt a pang of sympathy for the sage who had incarnated the earth itself.

–There used to be other fantasies as well, but they have gradually dissolved. What remains now is the most solid ‘belief’. If you enter, fend for yourself, for you are essentially delving into the deepest heart of a mighty existence.-

Sure enough, it was not safe inside.

That the mayor even bothered to warn them was likely out of respect for the big star, Little Matt Chao.

–Because of that intense belief, even after death, this obsession materialized into such a place. That’s why it is hidden so high in the sky.-

Yang Zicang gazed at the distant heavens.

–Her remnant consciousness is dead, and the information left here will soon fade away.-

That being so, Yang Zicang decided to take a peek at the entrance.

The flying carpet drew close to the entrance once more. Beyond the chaotic psychic field, he could dimly make out a wilderness teeming with people.
